How many factors do you think influence you to make a decision?
What kind of factors influence you to make a decision?
Do you do things because other people do them, or do you do things because YOU want to do them?
This type of thought process goes behind every decision we make, whether it's about the food we eat, the clothes we buy, the car we get etc.
If you believe it's possible, there is a 50% chance you are more likely to achieve that goal, and that's because you have given yourself room to believe that it is possible.
This goes with everything. Getting more muscle, getting more money, getting a house, running a mile in under 4 minutes, fitting into your favourite dress, getting 21 inch arms, achieving the side splits.
This type of belief all starts with seeing at least 1 human being perform it.
This is an excerpt from History Today regarding the 4 minute mile:
Breaking four minutes for the mile had been an obsession among middle-distance runners for years. A time of just under four and a half minutes had been recorded far back in 1861 by an Irishman named Heaviside. In 1923 the famous Finnish athlete Paavo Nurmi ran the distance in 4 minutes 10.4 seconds. Slowly the figure came inching down. The New Zealander Jack Lovelock did 4.07.6 in 1933, the Englishman Sydney Wooderson 4.06.4 in 1937, the Swede Arne Andersson 4.01.6 in 1944 and in 1945 another Swede, Gunder Haegg, lowered the record to 4.01.3, only a fraction off the target.
If the Irishman hadn't run mile in just under 4 1/2 minutes, would this have influenced Finnish athlete Paavo Nurmi to try and get 4 minutes and 10 seconds, and so on so forth?
Perhaps yes, they believed it was possible anyway and would try it, but that may well be because they are the 1% who were dedicated and believed it could be achieved in the first place, what about the other 99%?
There are so many people out there that probably haven't achieved their goals yet because they lack inspiration, they don't believe in themselves to achieve that goal.
This, I believe, is the first obstacle any one of us needs to break through to achieve enough success, that we start to believe it's possible.
How many times have you nearly given up on something before a little bit of success comes along and gives you a little bit of hope.
If people believed that something was possible enough, they would probably fight harder to achieve that goal, wouldn't they?
What about you?
Is there anything you want to do, but you just don't believe it's possible for whatever reason?
Maybe you were brought up by parents who lacked drive and ambition?
Perhaps your teachers didn't help?
Maybe you believe it's possible but you lack enough knowledge to take it further?
If either of these is the case, you need to search for other people, or places, that can help influence that decision for you.
You CAN build more muscle.
You CAN lose more bodyfat.
You CAN make more money.
If others can do it, then so can you, you just need to change your way of thinking.
'Don't let anybody tell you that you can't do something, not even me. You got a dream? You gotta hold onto that dream, protect it.'
